2 1/2 year old photos

I took Ethan into JcPenney for some late 2 1/2 year old photos at the beginning of October. Mostly because I had a coupon for 3 free sheets from when they forgot to order my photos last year and because I had another October coupon for 3 sheets for $11. Plus Ethan has such an obsession with helicopters and airplanes right now I wanted to capture it.

He did very well with the photographer...unlike when I took him in February for his 2 year old photos and he just ran everywhere but where they were taking the photos.

 Trying to jump.

Daddy was so proud that he threw the ball right at the photographer (who asked him to)
Ethan's love for helicopters captured on film.

What's new?

So what's new with us? I guess a lot has been going on and I've been so horrible about keeping up with my blog. You would think I'd have more time to update since I haven't been working since February but for some reason I just haven't.

Anyways, Ethan is now 2 years and 8 months old! He talks and sings everywhere he goes. You can understand about 75% of what he says now and he's starting to say phrases that we say and saying sentences that make me wonder "Where'd you hear that?" For example: when we were at the pumpkin patch on Sunday I asked him if he needed help opening his sandwich bag and his reply was "You don't have to" OK...

He is so much fun and also such a challenge most days. He's headstrong, opinionated and very independent. He reminds me a lot of myself in general. We're in for it :)

I am now 33 weeks and some change pregnant with Lila. At her 30 weeks ultrasound she was already 3 lbs 9 oz and that was almost 4 weeks ago. She most likely almost 4 1/2 lbs by now. She's growing just as expected and we'll find out in a few weeks whether I'll need a c-section because she's breech or not. I started pulling blankets and newborn clothes into the house this week to begin washing, folding and finding a home for everything. There is lot of stuff to find a place for!

I went through Ethan's dresser drawers and moved practically everything out of his 6 drawer dresser into his closet. We're using an IKEA 3 plastic drawer organizer and a nifty 2 poll hanging system for Ethan's clothes. Ethan helped with this project and was a very big help!

At this point we're just waiting for Lila to arrive and hoping to get everything prepared before she does. I can't believe we are just 6 weeks away from meeting our little girl and starting a new chapter of our lives. Just thinking about managing two kids makes me nervous, but lots of people do it, so we'll figure it out as we go.

My sister, mom and mother-in-law threw me a beautiful lavendar baby shower last Saturday. I'll post photos and write about that once I get a copy of the photos from my sister. Life is good!

What Ethan's been saying lately...

Ethan is a big talker which comes as no surprise given that I talk a lot! In the last couple months is vocabulary and sentences have taken off. Everyday he says something new. For a while it was the same sentences and words over and over and now his vocabulary has grown so much that he's able to hold a real conversation and we can usually understand about half of it, sometimes more or less.

Here's what he's been saying in August & September.

"Mommy Do", "Daddy Do" etc. - He uses this one a lot.  We recently started giving him choices so he likes to decide who will do what for him. It's been a blessing and a curse. Too many choices can be a bad thing :(

"Daddy chair" "Mommy chair" - He loves to tell everyone which chairs or seats on the couch are mommy and daddy's and he loves to steal spots too.

"Wanna read?" "Read Mommy"

"Sit in Daddy's spot" - He especially loves daddy's spot in bed when we read stories at night. He doesn't even want to share it with Ken.

"You are my sunshine" - He loves to sing this song. I've been singing it to him since he was a baby and now he occasionally will sing it to Lila.  This is our song. He hardly ever asks Ken to sing it.

"Daddy wanna play too?" - He starts to play then looks at Ken at his desk and asks this all the time so sweetly. It's hard to say no.

"I thirsty" - It's so nice that he can now tell us when he's hungry or thirsty in words, not gestures.

"Again?" - This he says over and over again.

"Fart" He tooted one day and said, "Fart". It caught me off guard because I didn't know when he'd heard us say fart instead of toot.

"Shoo fly" He calls all flies shoo flies. It sounds a little like fruit flies. He's fascinated by them and he leaves the sliding door open frequently so we usually have one or two in the kitchen.

"Doctor" vs. "Copter" - These both sound the same. They sound more like doctor. It's only confusing when he puts these words with something else. Like when he says "Copter shirt" it sounds like "Doctor hurt". He said this to his doctor a few weeks ago and I had to interpret what he really said.

"Ammy" - He can finally say Grammy (Ken's mom) instead of calling her Mommy.

"Creon" vs "crayon" - They sound alike. He now reminds us sometimes to take his Creon (enzymes) before meals.

"This is fun!" - This was fun to hear for the first time as he played with Grammy.

"I tall" - One day he stood on Grammy's legs and said "I tall". It caught me off guard because I didn't know he knew what tall was let alone could demonstrate what it was.

"1,2,3...8,9.10" The numbers in between are a little fuzzy, but he seems to knoe which of these comes next. He even added 11 a few days ago.

"I wanna play" - He constantly is telling us he wants to play when it's time to go to bed, eat dinner, etc.

"Tummy hurts" - He told us the other day that his tummy hurt and cuddled up on one of us for awhile until it stopped hurts. It's nice that he can tell us that he hurts and where.

"Mommy...Doctor? Baby okay?" Last week before my OB appointment I told him that I was going to see the doctor to check on the baby and when I came home he asked me if the baby was okay. It's amazing what he picks up and that he wanted to check back in for an update.

"Shuttle?" The shuttle flew over Sacramento last week and Ken made a video of it. Ethan saw it on the news in the morning. Grammy explained that it was an airplane with a shuttle on top. We didn't talk about it the rest of the day and when he saw Ken's video we asked him what was on top and he said "Shuttle"

"It say Ethan Dean" - He loves to hand Ken's credit card to the cashier at Costco. Last weekend Ken wanted it back since Ethan was bending it. I explained that it said Ken Dean on it so it was daddy's and Ethan's response was "It say Ethan Dean". I don't know how he came up with that one.

He loves to make everything "Ethan's" - He will say "Ethan's car" "Ethan's toys", etc. Ethan sounds a lot like E.T. which is hilarious.

I know this a lot to post about but it's amazing how much his vocabulary has grown. I look forward to seeing how he's talking over the next few months :)

Update on Lila

I went in at 23 weeks (early August) for my 5th ultrasound. That's right...5! I still have 2 more. One at 30 weeks and one just shy of 35 weeks. They decided to do one at 23 weeks because the 19 week ultrasound showed a placenta previa, where the placenta is less than a centimeter from the cervix. They assured me that it would most likely move. They were right it. It moved from less than a centimeter to 1.85cm from the cervix in 4 weeks. If it hadn't moved I would need a scheduled c-section. We are still waiting for it to move more than 2cm away to decrease the chances of extra bleeding during delivery.

I'm actually fine with having a c-section. After the horrible delivery experience I had with Ethan, I would welcome a c-section and actually think that the recovery would be easier. Not easy, but easier. We'll see what the verdict is after the next couple ultrasounds.

Right now, I'm 28 weeks and 2 days and Lila is about 2 to 2 1/2 lbs and about 15 inches long. She constantly moves around. I think she is more active than Ethan was and he was very active. I'm still unsure what position she is in, but she's definitely a mover. Ken has felt her move and watched her shake my belly from across the room. I always say she moves like a fish out of water, but she also moves kind of like I do at night when I try to roll over.

I'm very ready for December to be here already and to hold her in my arms. I'm in a lot of pain. My back (sciatic), my groin is very painful, and the latest development...infrequent contractions have made this last half of pregnancy feel like it is lasting forever.

I'm trying to enjoy my time with Ethan but can no longer take care of him on my own. Ken's mom has stepped in to help me 5 days a week, mostly in the mornings, and Ken has basically taken over Ethan's care and the household duties. I hate letting go, but even if I walk around the grocery store or run a simple errand I'm in pain for the remainder of the day.  There's no amount of Tylenol or prescription muscle relaxer that can ease my pain. I feel like a big baby and helpless, which I hate feeling.

I go in on Friday for my glucose testing and my 28 week (will be almost 29 weeks) appointment with the doctor. I'm a little nervous about the glucose testing because so much has happened in this pregnancy that didn't happen with Ethan. Ethan's pregnancy was a walk in the park compared to this one and still I haven't had any significant complications.

Anyways, life is moving along as we prepare for Lila to arrive in less than 12 weeks. It's exciting and also scary. Life with a family of four will be drastically different than life with three. We're up for the adventure though.

Ethan's Summer in photos (August)

We had a fun August. We stayed home most of August and enjoyed playdates, playing in the backyard and weekends with Daddy. Here are a few of the things we did in August.

Ethan's favorite perch in August was on mommy's side. Every time I would sit or lay on my side he would run over to get up on top of mommy.
"Look Mom, a hat" He also wore his helicopter shirt a lot this summer! He loves 'copters'
Singing & vacuuming. If only this vacuum actually had suction. It would be extremely helpful!
One day Ethan came out of the house to get in the car with his play keys. He went straight to the driver's side, opened the door, climbed in and tried to start the car with his play keys.
This was Ethan's final dose of TOBI after 5 1/2 months of 2 treatments a day.
Playing with blocks while doing his vest treatment.
So tired that he climbed onto the table and closed his eyes.
Playing Cars race game on the Xbox with daddy. Daddy was excited to see how well he could play and is looking forward to next year when he hopes Ethan will play along side him.
